Blackcomb’s helicopter division has 20 years experience with precision long-lining projects on both energized and de-energized lines. Blackcomb’s helicopter division facilitated the first “Flying in the Wire Environment” course in BC which was taught by Robert Feerst. This course was co-hosted with BC Hydro. Blackcomb also works closely with industry leaders in the development and testing of sensor technology for the power utility market.
Blackcomb’s hydro pilots have specialty skills in touch and go landings, pull buggy, marker balls, pull hard line, sock line, glass change (live line), pole setting, timber change, spacer change, reinforcing steel towers, line patrol, vegetation patrol, tree removal with grapple, hanging transformers, picking conductor, and cross arm change. Blackcomb’s specialty aircraft include 355 (Twinstars FX + F2), 205++, 206, 407, 350 Super D + 350B2(A-stars), 206L, and EC120. Pilot training includes “touch and go” landing procedures, HETS, the Flying in the Wire Environment course, hover exits, and long lining 250 ft. HETS training for all pilots is recurrent and ongoing. Blackcomb provides long lines, nets, sling gear, and touch & go wands.
