The Blackcomb Aviation Safety Policy directly reflects and is the overall guiding principal of the Blackcomb Aviation Safety Management System (“SMS”). This policy applies to all personnel and every aspect of company activities.

Blackcomb Aviation applies a Safety Management Systems approach in order to prevent accidents, minimize damage to equipment and property, to reduce risk of accident and injury to personnel and to work diligently towards identifying and reducing the existence of safety hazards. External agents, suppliers, and service providers are expected to demonstrate equivalent levels of Safety Management.

It is Blackcomb Aviation’s corporate policy to identify and comply with all applicable federal and provincial laws and regulations regarding safety in the workplace. Blackcomb Aviation incorporates aviation industry “best practices” concerning safety and provides each employee with a safe and health working environment. Safety and risk analysis is an integral component of all company decision-making processes.

The Accountable Executive for Blackcomb Aviation is John Morris, President. As Accountable Executive, he is responsible for operations or activities authorized under the certificates and accountable on their behalf for meeting requirements of the Canadian Aviation Regulations. The SMS Program is managed under the President’s authority by the SMS/Quality Assurance (“QA”) Manager who reports directly to the President. The SMS Manager holds veto over all decisions regarding safety and risk analysis.

Each employee is required to take preventative safety action, and to immediately inform the Accountable Executive or his representative, the SMS Manager, should they become aware of an immediate safety threat to persons or property. All employees are required to report accidents, incidents or safety hazards in accordance with company reporting procedures.

Disciplinary action shall not be taken against an employee who acts to prevent an injury or who reports any accident, incident or hazard. All employees are required to abide by the standards and procedures set forth in the Safety Management Program. Failure to comply with this safety policy, by any employee at any level, may result in disciplinary action.

Elements such as illegal activity, negligence or acts of willful misconduct shall be considered to be outside the scope of this Policy. Such activities are subject to punitive actions, sanctions, up to and including dismissal, in accordance with the terms of reference set out in the Blackcomb Employee Manual, Section 8, “Standards of Conduct Policy”.
